Villa Baldelli and Residence Il Casale are near Cortona’s Archaeological Park, in which you can visit the Etruscan necropolis by bike or on foot, or climb up to the centre of Cortona using nature path following the ancient Roman’s roads.
Inside Cortona you can appreciate the Etruscan and Roman city remains, the huge walls, the mullioned door, the underground water tanks, the Roman aqueduct from Porta Montanina to the “Bagni di Bacco” water tank near the church of S. Antonio. Out of the city you can find the “Meloni”, ancient Etruscan tombs, one in Camucia and 2 near Il Sodo. Between these is notable the Melone II at Il Sodo, with its terrace with beautiful statues. On the hillside, in the middle of the olive trees, you can visit other famous tombs, Tanella di Pitagora, Tanella Angori and the tomb of Mezzavia.
Over that area was recently discovered a number of old Roman roads. Looking toward Trasimeno Lake, you can visit an old Roman villa in Ossaia. All of these places are described inside MAEC, signalled by special signs and can be reached by car or by trekking paths. The MAEC works also as a documentation centre for the park and gives a wide variety of services to the visitors.
